June Meeting Recap

IL Representatives Greg Harris and Ann Williams told us about the session that just ended May 31. Among the highlights: civil unions for same-sex couples; a gambling expansion plan; increased individual and corporate tax rates; a new map of electoral districts; and a budget for the coming year. Rep. Harris said that the State's budget condition is dire and that more cuts will have to be made next year, the only question is what will be cut.

We heard from Raja Krishnamoorthi, who has announced he will seek the Democratic nomination for the 8th Congressional district. He will be eligible for Endorsement / Adoption at the July meeting.

With 81% of voting members voting "Yes", Ilya Sheyman was endorsed in his bid to win the Democratic nomination for the 10th Congressional district.

Our first meeting at the Lincoln Restaurant was a success and we hope it will be our home for a long time to come. Our next meeting is Tuesday, July 12.
