Thank you to all of our candidates for running!
At our August monthly meeting, we heard from Wendy Katten from Raise Your Hand, speaking about the importance of parents’ voices in decisions about the CPS, and what RYH has accomplished so far. Next up, Ram Villivalam from Brad Schneider’s campaign spoke about the importance of the race in the 10th Congressional District, and took questions on Schneider’s policy positions. There will be a follow-up blog post on the Schneider campaign this week, so look for that on the NDFA website (http://www.northsidedfa.com/): we’d like to start the discussion before next month’s meeting. The last speaker was Carl Wasco, who is running for state representative in the Rockford area, in the 68th district. Next month, we’ll discuss endorsing Schneider and Wasco. Julie Morrison, running for state senate in the 29th district (mostly in the 10th Congressional District) was unable to attend due to illness; Jorge Sanchez from MALDEF was unable to appear at the last minute due to an urgent deadline for a brief.
We have two social events planned: on Thursday, August 30, we’ll meet to listen to an Ella Fitzgerald Tribute at Millennium Park at the Pritzker Pavilion Park: bring a blanket and some food and join us to listen to music. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org for more details, and to let our social chair, Barry Aldridge, know you are planning to attend.
Next, we’ll go see a free movie – “No Impact Man” is playing at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2400 N. Cannon. The movie documents the effort of a Manhattan family attempting to make no impact on the environment for one year. There will be presentations afterward on low-impact living; those who wish to join us will go out for a meal/drinks in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The movie is free, but you must register to attend, either by emailing email@example.com or by calling 773-755-5122.
Our next monthly meeting will be on Tuesday, September 11. We’re in the process of confirming with a great line up of speakers now, and there will be several endorsement votes scheduled, so mark your calendar now.
Keep up the good work, and keep telling us about the campaign work you do – send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
