Changing America one election at a time.

Our August Northside DFA meeting is next Monday night, and we will be featuring four 46th Ward Aldermanic candidates: James Cappleman, Michael Carroll, Don Nowotny and Molly Phelan. The 46th Ward is in the Uptown area; in 2007 the current 46th Ward Alderman, Helen Shiller, received 53.1% of the vote and James Cappleman received 46.9%. The municipal elections will be February 22, 2011 with the runoff elections on April 5th.

This will be one of the most hotly contested races on the north side so don't miss this meeting!

At the August meeting we will also be electing a new chair for Northside DFA. At the last meeting I announced my plans to step down as chair and we called for nominations from among our voting members. One member -- Ed Mullen -- was nominated. On Monday we will vote either yes no or abstain. If Ed receives over 50% of the "yes" vote he will become the new chair. If you are a voting member who can't attend the meeting please remember that you can vote ahead of time by sending an email to northsidedfa@gmail.com.

Last night's fundraiser was a huge success! We had a great turnout, the food and wine were phenomenal (I bought five bottles myself -- it was just too good), the silent auction was lovely, the company was wonderful, and we raised money for the organization which of course was the goal of it all. Thank you so much to everyone who came, to everyone to donated a silent auction item, and to those who couldn't come and donated anyway.

And now ... the results of our Mayoral straw poll. We started with two candidates on the ballot, Richard M. Daley and Ben Joravsky, all other candidates were placed on the ballot via a "filing fee". Votes were purchased by attendees who were allowed to buy as many votes as they wished. The results (in order of filing) were:
